What is Add-ins?

Add-ins are third-party Tools that seamlessly integrate with Outlook. Microsoft Outlook has certainly come with its own set of add-ins. It is a program that you use and install with Outlook to boost the performance. When we are installing Outlook Add-ins and importing some projects, tasks, to-do list items, we can easily view our all work items in a single interface at the same time.

In Addition, you can customize Outlook add-ins to create ‘view’ that you need and to specify how updates are submitted in the right manner. Microsoft Outlook also comes with own set of add-ins that makes our task easier. There are so many types of add-ins, some of them are given below:

Types of Add-ins
  • Microsoft Junk Email Reporting Addin: ‘Junk Email reporting Add-ins’ lets you to directly report junk email to Microsoft. These types of add-ins are used to improve junk mail filtering technologies.
  • Microsoft Outlook Social Connector / Outlook Social Connector 2013: This type of add-ins are generally used to connect social media services such as: Facebook. Twitter, Windows Live manager.
  • OneNote Notes about Outlook Items: Whether you are using Onenote to save such additional notes and have them linked with Outlook at that time this feature is helpful, or else you can disable it from the list.
  • Microsoft Access, Outlook Add-In for Data Collection and Publishing: This add-in allows you to sync data to access. It is not needed when you don’t use this feature.
  • Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in: While you are using the Macro feature in Outlook, then keep it enabled otherwise, this feature is inactive by default.
  • Windows Search Email Indexer: When you are connecting with Outlook 2010 or 2013 then leave this feature.
  • Microsoft Outlook Backup Add-in: This add-in helps you to create backup copies of your .PST files at regular intervals. It makes easy to keep all Outlook folder backups.

Advantage/ Disadvantage

Advantage
Manage Time and Store Information:  Outlook add-in manage information in a better manner that saves your time. And shows all information in a single interface.

Disadvantage
When you are installing a lot of add-in on your machine, then it may slow down the performance of Outlook or may the System get corrupted due to Anti-virus or start hanging.

How to Enable/Disable Outlook Add-ins in Outlook 2007

Step 1: In Outlook 2007 Go to the Tools Menu > Trust Center


Step 2: Click on Add-ins section, You will see here all Active/Inactive add-ins. Click on Add-in which you want to enable/ disable and hit Go button towards the bottom, this will open COM-ADD-In page
























Step 3: You can check or uncheck add-in which you want to  disable from Outlook and click 'ok' button to apply changes.
