How can I Create or Move PST file in Outlook 2010?

I have a friend that is moving files from Outlook 2003 to 2010 and It had problems in figuring out- how to move their mails to PST file. In case anyone else is looking how to do this.

Outlook 2010 provides more functionality to create a PST file. PST stands for personal storage table. Outlook users store all their personal emails, contacts, notes, tasks, calendars and more. It provides option to archive all data into a particular folder. To create a PST file in Outlook 2010, follow the steps are given below:

Step 1: Open Microsoft Outlook 2010 and In the top left of Outlook , and click on File tab.




















Step 2: After that click on the Account setting option




















Step 3: In the Account setting popups click on the second “Data files” option.





















Step 4: Now a new pop-up window open in front of you by the name of New Outlook Data file from it select the particular file format in which you want to create PST as well as mention the name of PST file in search box and click ok




















Step 5: If you want to know about- Where is your PST file stored in your machine then double click on PST file, this dialog box will appears in your screen that show the complete path of your Outlook data file.






















Ok there is also another way to know the path of Outlook PST file in Account setting window there is an option open folder click on it. It also shows the path of your PST file.

Where all My PST file saved?

To access the PST Folder in Win 7, 10, or Vista, enter the following in the address bar in Explorer or in the Run command:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook\jack.pst

How to Move your PST file?

If you want to manage Outlook data files into an effective manner by moving all of them to an particular location. Then Microsoft Outlook will easily redownload all emails into a new PST file by doing some simple changes in the registry value. 

Step 1: Open Run Box and type regedit in search box.

Step 2: In the Registry Editor box choose Oultook>> Default>> Modify

Step 3: Enter the desirable location of folder, where you want to store your Outlook data files, and then click Ok.

Now, automatically move contents of your Outlook data folder and opened above to the new folder which you specified, after that Reopen Outlook.  Everything should work as before, except your Data files are stored at the location were you want it.
